4 Components of the Perfect Golf Warm Up

A proper warm-up before golf can improve your performance and significantly reduce injury risk. Most golfers skip straight to the first tee, but spending 10-15 minutes preparing your body pays dividends.

1. General Movement (3-4 minutes) Get your heart rate up with brisk walking, arm circles, and leg swings. This increases blood flow to muscles and raises your core temperature.

2. Dynamic Stretching (3-4 minutes) Focus on the movements you will use: trunk rotations, hip circles, shoulder swings, and lateral lunges. Avoid static stretching before play — save that for after your round.

3. Sport-Specific Activation (3-4 minutes) Use a resistance band to activate your glutes and rotator cuff. These stabilizing muscles are essential for a consistent swing and protecting your shoulders and low back.

4. Progressive Swings (3-4 minutes) Start with half-swings using a short iron, gradually increasing range of motion and speed. Progress to full swings with longer clubs. This grooves your swing pattern while your body finishes warming up.

This routine takes about 12 minutes and can be done in the parking lot or practice area. Your first tee shot will thank you.
