Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) uses specially designed stainless steel tools to detect and treat fascial restrictions, scar tissue, and chronic inflammation. At Helix Sport + Spine, IASTM is one of several manual therapy techniques we integrate into comprehensive treatment plans.

How IASTM works: The metal instruments amplify the clinician's ability to detect tissue changes — areas of fibrosis, adhesion, or chronic inflammation that the hands alone might miss. The controlled microtrauma introduced by the instrument stimulates a localized inflammatory response, initiating the body's natural healing cascade to remodel disorganized tissue.

What to expect during treatment: The provider applies the instrument to the skin with emollient and uses controlled strokes along the tissue. You may feel a gritty or bumpy sensation in areas of restriction. Mild redness and soreness are normal for 24-48 hours post-treatment.
